Ology Network for Millennials Launches with Reach of 17 Million

Ology is the first vertical network created exclusively by and for Millennials.

NEW YORK, NY, February 13, 2009 /Web PR News/ -- Ology Media today officially launched Ology, the first vertical network created exclusively by and for Millennials, with a strong focus on college students and recent graduates in the 18-24 year old demographic.

Ology.com, the flagship and entry point to the network, hosts a daily digest of provocative commentary, opinion and content gathered from a portfolio of talented young writers and the hidden niches of the Internet. Ology Editors scour the Web curating the most informative and entertaining content for their channels. Ology channels are devoted to key areas of interest to this audience, including Activism, Jobs, Music, Gadgets, Travel, Screen/TV, Campus life and more.

Over 250 blogs and publisher sites have joined the network since its soft launch in October, 2008. Ology reached over 17 million unduplicated unique users in January as tracked by comScore. Publishers in the network include Playlist, MyYearbook, StudyWorld/NovelGuide, Cakewrecks, Easy-Bib, Daily Princetonian, Collegecram.com, GreekStrength, HackCollege and more.

Consumers in this demographic are also flocking to Ology.com to create their own personal blogs, aka "ologies". Custom software is available to create these sites which are being used to share ideas, expertise, express opinions and engage in dialogue on a wide variety of subjects and passions. There are already hundreds of ologies on varying topics of interests to this community (eg; cook.ology.com, trenz.ology, com, astro.ology.com, streetdiva.ology.com) Ology publishers make money by participating in advertising on the network and will soon be able to engage in social shopping and other commerce activities.

"We're thrilled at the reception of Ology in this vibrant marketplace, and see this as an opportunity to merge these young voices in a way that has not been done before" said Beth Haggerty, Founder & CEO. "The content in this marketplace is amazing. Millennials self-publish like crazy and are voracious consumers of what their peers create. Our goal is to provide a platform that helps them to continue to drive change and create a world that reflects their unique characteristics and talents, and find others that share their interests and passions", said Ms. Haggerty.

The Ology team spent months researching this market and traveled to campuses across the country to talk directly with their target audience: motivated and engaged young people. This audience cares deeply about the important issues of our day, and they that lead lives of consequence beyond social networking and friending. Unlike the social utility sites that provide networking tools around personal profiles, Ology provides a place where communities will cohere around deeply shared interests and passions.

This audience is focused on the environment and understand their responsibility to chart a path to energy independence and preserve our natural resources. They seek to fix a broken health care system and restore America's status around the world. This generation faces the worst job market since the Great Depression. They are inheriting a challenging set of economic and social issues, and they wonder aloud if they might be the first generation of Americans not to do better than their parents. Yet with these challenges has emerged the most aspirational and socially engaged young people we've seen in decades.

Their flight to activism is real and continues unabated. This digitally-fluent first wave of the Internet Generation was the driving force in the recent election of the American President. They have a keen understanding of how to use new media to create and empower their generation. Neil Howe and William Strauss' new book Millennials Rising states: "Over the next decade, The Millennial Generation will entirely recast the image of youth from downbeat and alienated to upbeat and engaged with potentially seismic consequences for America."

Ology Media is led by seasoned executives from media, online and technology companies such as Yahoo, Time Inc. Batanga Inc, The Walt Disney Company, Infoseek, Andersen Consulting and Ziff Davis. The company is headquartered in New York City.
